How to get the most out of your Traeger ranger grill

The best way to get the same performance from your Traeger Ranger is to keep up with the maintenance as you would any other grill.

The first step and one that should be done on a regular basis, is to clean your grill. If you’ve got any issues such as flare-ups or the Traeger Ranger grill not maintaining temperatures, this is a quick and easy solution that works most of the time!

Cleaning your Traeger Ranger grill is an important part of maintaining your grill and ensuring that it performs at its best. Not only does a clean grill look better, but it also cooks food more evenly and reduces the risk of flare-ups. Here's a step-by-step guide to cleaning your Traeger Ranger grill:

  1. Start by unplugging your grill and allowing it to cool down. You don't want to start cleaning while the grill is still hot, as it can be dangerous and may cause damage to the grill.

  2. Remove the grill grates and the drip pan. These are the two main components of your grill that need to be cleaned on a regular basis. The grill grates should be scrubbed with a grill brush to remove any stuck-on food or grease. The drip pan should be emptied of any excess grease or debris.

  3. Grab an ash vacuum cleaner or a shop vac and clean any residual ash you see, making sure to clean out the fire pot of the remaining pellets.

NOTE: A bag less vacuum cleaner is what you’re looking for if you don’t have one. (Whatever you do, don’t try and use the Dyson and clog up the particle filter - not that I’ve done anything like that of course….).

  4. Wipe down the interior of the grill. Use a cloth or sponge and some warm, soapy water to wipe down the inside of the grill. Be sure to get into all of the nooks and crannies, as this is where food and grease can accumulate.

  5. Scrape away any excess grease or debris from the exterior of the grill. Use a putty knife or scraper to remove any excess grease or debris from the exterior of the grill. This will help to keep your grill looking clean and shiny.

  6. Clean the grill cover. If you have a grill cover, be sure to clean it as well. Simply remove it from the grill and hose it down, or clean it with a mild detergent and water.

  7. Reassemble the grill. Once everything is clean, reassemble the grill by placing a handful of fresh pellets in the fire pot, replacing the grill grates and drip pan. I’ll usually also replace the drip pan foil liner at this point for good measure.

  8. Fire up the grill. After cleaning, it's a good idea to do a "burn off" to remove any remaining debris or grease. Simply turn on the grill and let it run for about 15 minutes at a high heat setting. This will burn off any remaining debris, leaving your grill ready to use.

Cleaning your Traeger Ranger grill may seem like a daunting task, but it's actually quite easy. By following these steps, you can keep your grill clean and performing at its best for years to come.
